Quieter pallet trucks for retailers

1st October 2018

To help busy retail centres meet noise emission regulations, particularly during night time unloading and loading operations, a new noise reduction option is available on the Hyster® P1.6 and P1.8 Pedestrian Powered Pallet Truck series.

Pallet Trucks for Retail Centres in Residential Areas

More goods are being transported outside peak times than ever before to help reduce road congestion. This results in increased night time deliveries, presenting a challenge for retail centres located close to residential areas. These centres may be looking to meet specific noise emission standards, set at equal to/less than 65 dB(A) from 19:00-22:30, and equal to/less than 60 dB(A) between 22:30 and 07:00.

Designed with operator comfort in mind, the Hyster® Pedestrian Powered Pallet Trucks operate at a maximum noise level of 70 dB(A) as standard. However, the new option, developed by the Hyster Special Engineering Team, further reduces the noise levels emitted to below 60dB in accordance with PIEK regulations*.

How has Hyster Europe made its Pedestrian Powered Pallet Trucks quieter?

Noise reduction modifications made to the range of Hyster® Pedestrian Powered Pallet Trucks include hydraulic pump noise isolation and mounting designed to significantly reduce resonance.

There is also an added clamp to prevent movement of the battery and foam has been used to reduce noise emission outside of the motor compartment, as well as along the length of the battery cover to remove the steel to steel contact point.

The new truck tyres are made from Topthane®, which is tough but also offers a softer drive, and triple roller, frame and wheel casting modifications have all been made to contribute to noise reduction during travel.

Putting the new Hyster® Pallet Trucks to the test

As with all Hyster® lift trucks, the modified Pedestrian Powered Pallet Truck has undergone rigorous testing to ensure noise has been reduced during transporting and lowering loads. The final results showed background noise achieved levels below 60dBA, and a similar  noise level during lowering. This makes the truck an ideal choice for retail applications.

Hyster Europe works with customers to identify and understand the challenges faced in different industries, such as retail operations, and provides solutions to meet their specific demands.
