A unique bi-directional fan solution designed by Hyster to prevent forklift engines from clogging and overheating has been shortlisted for a Design4Safety Award in the Industrial Trucks and Ancillary Products category.
Hyster® lift trucks for recycling and paper applications
Recycling sites, with their accompanying large amounts of dust and debris in the environment, may face potential fire hazards every year. Standard forklifts operating in paper applications require engine compartment cleanouts much more frequently to prevent overheating.

To help tackle this issue, Hyster® Fortens™ forklifts up to 5.5-tonne capacity are available with a unique bi-directional, radiator fan which automatically changes direction every 20 minutes, for 20 seconds, blowing out the unwanted dust and debris collected whilst sucking air in. The patented self-cleaning fan reduces clogging and risks of overheating in recycling and paper applications.
It reduces the amount of debris entering the engine compartment and getting stuck on the transmission or in the radiator, minimising radiator cleanouts and keeping the truck cool, even in high ambient operating temperatures.
To support the innovative fan technology, Hyster® forklifts can also be provided with venting on side panels, a solid multi-piece belly pan and tough rubber guards over the drive axle.
