Hyster Europe reveals zero emissions big trucks project updates at Greenport 2019

1st November 2019

Visitors to the 2019 Greenport Congress from 16th – 19th October received an exclusive update on the Hyster® zero emissions Container Handler projects currently underway.

The future of zero emission big trucks
On the 17th of October, Big Truck Program Leader for Hyster Europe, Willem Nieuwland, discussed “Alternative energy sources for mobile plant equipment”. Willem’s presentation included an update on innovative electrification technology and continued the debate on fuel cells, charging and power supply in port operations.

The session covered important industry topics and explained why zero emissions is expected to be an important focus point for the future. Willem also discussed how Hyster® big trucks can contribute to a better environment within ports by electrifying equipment.

What’s the latest in Hyster® electrification?
Two different zero emissions Hyster® lift trucks are currently in development for the Port of Los Angeles in the US and Port of Valencia in Spain. A battery powered container handler is being tested to meet the needs of well-structured applications with lighter duty cycles, alongside a version with a fuel cell range extender, which is intended for those that require more flexibility or have a heavy duty 24/7 operation.
