At the plant, just outside Milan, each new Hyster® product follows a carefully structured development process at the warehouse product development centre. Reliability is the most important truck feature for many warehouse managers, so stringent testing and life-cycle simulation verify dependability of the truck design.
All Hyster manufacturing sites, including Masate, are ISO certified and employ world class manufacturing technology and state of the art processes, including the company-wide Demand Flow Technology system. This ensures that the same Hyster quality standards are adhered to at every stage of manufacturing, for every piece of equipment manufactured at the plant in Italy.
This quality manufacturing process is also efficient. At the Masate plant, it takes just five days to complete the build of a VNA, for example, and to minimise the possibility of disruption, all production staff are trained to work across multiple stations. Following significant investments in technology, the plant also operates four automated robots.
Strict quality testing is an important part of the process at the Masate plant. Warehouse trucks undergo multiple tests to check energy efficiency, lift and travel speeds, productivity and stability. Dynamic tests can be completed on a 50 metre test track, while special towers enable the testing of lift capabilities. Some products are also tested using a ‘rolling road’ which is controlled and tested automatically.
